Ever since its first screening in 2014, the DFSFF needed a distinct and consistent identity. The challenge was to create an identity that resonates with the student filmmaking community that DFS is made up of. How do we design a mark that encompasses the feeling of a student film? How can we differentiate our design so they stand out next to other campus programs? These are a few of the questions we kept in mind throughout this process.

To achieve this, we started with looking back into the history of DFS's designs: from old color palettes to logos. We developed eye-catching colors and matched the look of past logos with a modern twist. We also decided to add the text as part of the logo and shaped it as a clapperboard: a defining icon of filmmaking. The outcome is a captivating and memorable logo and identity designed to leave an impression and encourage student filmmakers to show their work.
